51-1 arquitectos
Lima 3.0 self-built architecture out of the extreme pragmatism of millions of short-term decisions, has not yet managed to properly serve its society. Until now, it has only achieved either survival or profit, not quality of life. Lima is still on its search for an architecture that deals with those complex spatial requirements of developing megalopolis, where population growth seems unlimited and resources scarce.
Since its origin, the work of 51-1 has been precisely in that quest. How to revert the enormous lack of green of this rainless territory? How to achieve development while maintaining a sense of belonging and passing on traditions? How to bring quality densification to stop the endless city growth? How to introduce proper collective and public spaces so people meet? Learning from Lima and then proposing for Lima explains our practice. This fascinating city has been our laboratory. In this Little Lima Book we present attempts on that direction. Spatial essays towards building a more generous city.
