Desde que, en 1956, Jacques Lecoq, una de las grandes personalidades de la pedagogía teatral del siglo XX, fundara en París su Escuela Internacional de Teatro, su forma de enfocar el juego de la actuación no ha dejado de expandirse hasta llegar a impregnar todo el discurso y la práctica teatral contemporánea. Animado por el mismo espíritu que Stanislavski, Vajtángov, Michael Chejov, o Meierhold, su propia experiencia como actor y director lleva a Lecoq a reformular principios, investigar procesos y revelar nuevos aspectos de la relación dinámica del actor, el cuerpo y el espacio. Sólo tras cuarenta años de labor docente, en 1996, Jaques Lecoq se decidió a escribir la historia y las conclusiones de su proceso de investigación teatral. El cuerpo poético es el único texto publicado sobre la teoría y la práctica de la pedagogía teatral de este excepcional maestro.
