Valerio Olgiati nace en 1958. Estudia arquitectura en la ETH de Zúrich. Tras vivir y trabajar primero en Zúrich y más tarde, durante algunos años, en Los Angeles, en 1996 abre su propia oficina en Zúrich, y en 2008 -junto con su mujer, Tamara Olgiati-, en Flims. Entre otras distinciones, ha obtenido la Mención Especial del Premio Alemán de Arquitectura, en cuatro ocasiones, el premio al 'Mejor Edificio de Suiza' y el Premio Suizo del Hormigón por la Escuela en Paspels, la Casa K+N, el Estudio Bardill y el Centro de Visitantes delParque Nacional Suizo.

Ha sido profesor invitado en la ETH de Zúrich, la AA de Londres y la Universidad de Cornell en Nueva York. En 2009 desempeñó la cátedra Kenzo Tange en la Universidad de Harvard, Cambridge. Desde 2002 es profesor titular en la Accademia di Architettura Mendrisio en la Universitá della Svizzera Italiana.
