Photographer and documentarian Ian Reid was born and raised in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. In 2018 he set out to photograph 23 public housing developments in Brooklyn from above. His goal was to preserve the architecture and to present the structures without any preconceived notions of what goes on within. The images are framed by the streets they are defined by, often showing how they look with the changing seasons. Gentrification and development have changed the surroundings of the public housing, but the buildings and its residents for the most part stay the same. Complex Geometry respects the true residents of Brooklyn and pays homage to where Reid grew up and still spends a great deal of his time.

An exhibition centre is a central focus of a city’s economic life, and in many cases a unique expression of its image. For this reason, as well as offering adequate space and infrastructure, it must make a strong, clearly recognizable architectural statement. Over the past couple of decades, new technology and globalization have transformed trade fairs: today they are not so mu...

  • PHARMACIES
    VAN UFFELEN, CHRIS
Pharmacies constitute a special form of commercial architecture. The market for medicines, which is heavily regulated in most countries, has led to a veritable competition of the “atmosphere of space“, since where product and price can no longer provide a competitive advantage, customer loyalty must be created with other means. In addition to professional competence and familia...

Once upon a time a pharmacy was a small place with a cosy yet patrician air, where the all-knowing master of medicine would dispense pills, mix potions and generally perform the offices of a scientific shaman. However, in recent years the nature of the trade has undergone a profound transformation and the majority of these establishments now provide a wide range of health servi...
